Meet Julie - Above Knee Amputee, 79 Years OldJulie is a relatively new amputee, recently loosing her limb above the knee a little over a year ago. Because of other recent health issues, along with her loosing her limb, she had been advised by her surgeon, as well as her family, that she probably wasn’t a good prosthetic candidate and should utilize a motorized cart.Being a dedicated and positive person, she knew that she had the ability to walk again. She started searching and had met Kim Duckett, Fourroux Prosthetics Counselor and Practitioner. Though Julie’s expectations were high, she underestimated the dedication and work involved in her recovery. “I guess I come in with the idea that recovery was going to be like with my hip replacement and knee replacement” said Julie. “It wasn’t the same thing”. Kim introduced her to a whole new world of Fourroux Technology & Service. One division of that service that played a critical role in Julie’s success, was Fourroux’s In-house Physical Therapy Department. Scott Waite, Fourroux Prosthetics P.T., worked with Julie to establish muscle control and adaptation to her new prosthesis. “Scott has been working with me from the very beginning. His reassurance, confidence building and assistance in showing me correct ways to work with my prosthesis, has I think made the difference in my outcome”, Julie says. In short period of time, with the support of the Staff at Fourroux Prosthetics and Julie’s determination, she is as active now as she was prior to her amputation. Fourroux Prosthetics is glad to have built a relationship for life with Julie and her family. |
