Meet Renee - Above Knee Amputee

Renee is an amputee not unlike many others. After years and years of frustration with her current prosthesis and situation, she had all but given up. She had come to a point where she had decided that wearing her prosthesis was not worth the day to day hassle she was facing. At the time, she had made a decision to ‘do what she had to do…on one leg’, and opted to not wear a prosthesis.

Over time this led to an issue with her sound leg. Not having her prosthesis to help distribute her weight, she began to have problems with her sound knee and joints.

An orthopedic doctor had given her two options; revisit the use of a prosthesis…or be wheelchair bound. As a wheelchair was not an option in Renee’s mind, she had made the reluctant decision to search for a prosthetic center.

Her decision led her to Fourroux Prosthetics. Though reluctant, soon she began to realize that not all prosthetic centers were alike, and that there was more to it than just receiving ‘a leg’.

“Renee came to us after 10 years of frustration” says Keith Watson, CP & Owner of Fourroux Prosthetics. “She hadn’t worn her leg consistently for 10 years, and had all but given up. We started by counseling her and treating her as a patient, helping her build confidence in our staff, the process and a prosthesis.”

“He kind of just let me talk about how I hated prostheses.” Renee said. “We discussed Fourroux Prosthetics and about the different technologies that were available that might be right for ME. Nobody had ever done that before. ‘The relationship’ has become like a family to me.”

Renee’s decision that day to visit Fourroux has changed her life. She is more confident than ever, and using her prosthesis to the fullest. She is more educated on life as an amputee, and is constantly striving to better her situation.

“She is now a very determined individual.” says Keith. “Can’t and won’t is not in her vocabulary. She has a ‘can do’ attitude and that is what has helped her beat the odds.”

“Before I chose Fourroux, I thought I was working with some of the best prosthetists probably in the country.”  says Renee. “Now, my opinion is that those guys need to meet Keith and the staff here.”

“I’ve been to several prosthetic ‘companies’ in my life, and this is the best that I’ve been to.” Renee continues. “I would say to the person on the couch, if you haven’t found a solution, you definitely need to look at Fourroux…definitely!”
