Meet Jo Jo - Quadrilateral Amputee

Joseph Jean Paul, otherwise known as Jo Jo, is truly an inspiration.  At 52 years old, Jo Jo has endured a lot in his life.  Born a quadrilateral, Jo Jo has always trusted in his faith and uses it to show others with challenges that you can overcome anything.

“I don’t have arms and legs, but I have many blessings,” says Jo Jo.  “God has given me the ability to share with other individuals who have challenges like me.”

With the help of many in the Huntsville community, Jo Jo, along with long time friend Herold Alvares, came to Fourroux Prosthetics with the hope of getting fitted with new prosthetics.  Jo Jo lost his prosthetics when the devastating earthquake in Haiti forced him to leave his prosthetics behind during his flight from destruction.  Upon his return, his prosthetics were destroyed beyond repair, not allowing him to walk since that time.

During the 2 weeks Jo Jo spent with Fourroux staff and patients, he exuded a tremendous amount of hope and inspiration to those of us around him.  “His positive attitude is infectious.” says Keith Watson, co-owner of Fourroux Prosthetics.  “You don’t see his handicap.  You see his love and what he shares with others.”

Although both Jo Jo & Herold have been dealt what would seem to others as tremendous hardships, they don’t let it discourage them from doing what they love.  They are extremely skilled artists, and have gotten attention around the world with their ability to paint amazing pieces of art.

“Just because you lose your arms or legs, doesn’t mean you can’t accomplish what you want.” Jo Jo explains.  “God gives you the ability to develop in other ways…in your mind and in your spirit.”

Jo Jo and Herald are amazing people, and two weeks we had the opportunity to spend with them was amazing.  They are two very special individuals who touched all of us at Fourroux Prosthetics.
