At Fourroux Prosthetics, we us state-of-the-art computer aided design (CAD) and technology when creating an amputees prosthesis. It enables us to go beyond the traditional approach of prosthetic care, the role of providing just a prosthetic device. We are now able to provide unmatched quality service, resulting in world class care. This advanced approach to prosthetic design allows us to create an superior fitting devices in a fraction of the time it would take using conventional prosthetic design methods. Computer aided prosthesis design all but eliminates the inconsistencies typically associated with the use of plaster, enabling us to provide the highest quality prosthetic devices in the least amount of time. A laser scanning camera system is used to acquire a 3 dimensional shape of our patients’ limb, which is then stored on a computer. A laser light, similar to ones used in reading bar codes at a store, is emitted from a handheld box. This light scans over the entire limb and captures an exact digital image replicating the shape and size of our patients’ limb. Once the scan has been completed, the digital file is directly sent to our fabrication department. Using computer aided manufacturing, our prosthetic technicians begin creating a temporary (or diagnostic) socket for an amputees initial test fitting.
